Mission & Philosophy

The philosophy of Saint Francis High School's Counseling Department has its roots in the tradition of Catholic education, the Holy Cross commitment to educating the whole person and the school's desire to encourage students to achieve their highest potential. This focus is essential in meeting a variety of needs. The result is an increased awareness of self, others and the ability to make realistic and mature decisions in one's academic plans, college and career goals and personal life goals.

8/29/2007-Freshman Parent Meeting followed by Back to School Night-7PM-Gym

9/20/2007-Senior Parent College NIght begins at 6:30 PM in the Cafeteria-come early as parking will be restricted

 

August/Sept-Counselors call in freshman to small group meetings for introduction to Counselor

Sep17 and 18-Counselors present college information in Senior English Classes

Sept-Counselors meet with each senior for 45 minutes to discuss college admissions

All seniors interested in four year colleges should download The Senior Guide to College Admissions from Docutek. Forms needed to request teacher or Counselor letters of recommendation are at this site.

10/17/2007-PSAT Testing for all sophomore and juniors on campus-Seniors are excused for the day

10/1-10/31-Counselors continue to meet with seniors

Begin working on applications -may file CSU application as early as October 1

EA or ED Letter of Recommendation Packets for Teachers and Counselor must be submitted by Oct 8, 2006

 

10/06/2007 SAT Testing at Saint Francis as well as other sites in the Bay area. Students must register with the College Board.
November .

November 30 is the last day to postmark applications to the CSU and UC schools

11/03/2007- SAT Testing at other sites in the Bay area-not offered at Saint Francis---students must register with the College Board

Junior students:

  • should plan to take the SAT I this spring. Registration can be found at www.collegeboard.com
  • Juniors considering the University of California or highly selective colleges should also take the SAT II's in two subject areas. Registration information can be found at www.collegeboard.com
  • College Fair List

Sophomores:

  • doing well in Biology or Chemistry should take SAT II's in either subject in June. Register at www.collegeboard.com
  • doing well in AP European History should take the World History SAT II in May or June of the sophomore year

    All FAFSA, Profile, and Cal Grant forms are now available in the Counseling Office. You must fill these forms out in order to be considered for financial aid or scholarships.
