Matt Chisam, son of Cross Country and Track coach Roberta Chisam and a 2000 graduate of Saint Francis High School finished fifteenth out of 19 competitors in the Decathlon at the United States Olympic Trials in Eugene Oregon this past week.  From Roberta and Scott at the Trials:

On Monday, Matt Chisam completed the 2-day decathlon competition at the US Olympic Track and Field Trials that were held in Eugene, Oregon.  Going into the competition, he was ranked 19th and he finished 15th overall.  He finished 2nd in the pole vault equaling his best at 16'8'.  He also placed in the top 7 in the 1500, javelin, shot put and discus.  His second day total was a personal best.  The winner of the competition, Bryan Clay, set a meet record of 8832 points which is the best score by any American in the last 15 years.  It has been said that this was probably the best showing of American decathletes ever with 10 people scoring more than 8100 points.  The top 3 competitors, Bryan Clay, Tom Pappas and Trey Hardee will represent the US in Bejing, China in August.  The Americans have a chance of taking several medals in the Olympics.

On the Girls side, Saint Francis scored 113 to Notre Dame’s 17 in the Varsity meet and 106 to 25 in the Junior Varsity meet.  Highlights include Kirsten Kozlovsky, competing in the Junior Varisty High Jump, improving her PR in the from 4’ 10” to 5’ 2” (a New JV School Record)!  The Varsity 4x100 improved their season best time by 1 full second to 50.73.  We had 3 girls in the same race slip under 61 seconds in the 400m: junior Shanie Landen (60.57), freshman  Lauren Madigan (60.60), and sophomore Samantha Mravca (60.94).  Courtney Albini got a double PR with a win in the 1600 (5:36.9) and second in the 3200 (12:00.4).

Good Day (and Night) at the K-Bell

This Saturday at the K-Bell Invitational at Los Gatos High School, several Saint Francis athletes posted some impressive marks.  Unfortunately as of Monday morning they have not posted the official results for the field events, or the team scores.  I will update the site when those are available.  Complete results are now available here.

In the Varsity Boys 100, Glyn Borel ran for fourth place in the 100 in 11.34 and a 23.68 in the 200Phil Pompei also finished fourth in a field of 52 in the 3200 with a PR of 9:48.61Omar Bourgoub tied his PR of 6’ 6” in the High Jump with just 1 day of practice, and both relay teams ran extremely well with times of 44.07 in the 4x100 (second place) and 3:34.33 in the 4x400 (third).

For the Varsity Girls, Pryia Mathew had an particularly good day.  She won both the Long Jump (16’ 5”, a 13” PR over Wednesday’s PR) and Triple Jump (35’ 10”, another PR).  Monica Harnoto finally broke the 65 second barrier in the 400 with a time of 63.73, Samantha Mravca ran 13.12 in the 100 and 26.70 in the 200, and Kirsten Koslovsky cleared 4’ 10” in the High Jump.  In the Varsity Girls 5,000, the field of runners got cold feet and ended up with only Shelby Golan running the race.  The meet officials ran the fast heat of he 3200 with Shelby continuing on for another 4.5 laps by herself to finish the race.  For her efforts she won a medal, scored 10 points for the team and now has the Meet Record for the 5,000.
