Their Last Race Together… Saturday the Varsity Girls competed for the final time this year as a team at the CCS Championships in Belmont. The team finished fourth in Division 2. While the team did not make it to the State Meet this year, they finished at the seventh fastest team of the day, and moved up to the #4 spot of all-time for St. Francis girls teams at Crystal Springs. Shelby Scores Big at Wildflower Triahlon Senior Shelby Golan competed in the Wildflower Triathlon on May 3, 2008. It was an Olympic distance course (.9mi swim, 24+ mile bike, 6.2mi run). Out of 2,374 athletes of all ages and competition levels, male and female, Shelby finished #95 overall. In the process she: Set a new Course Record for her age group (17-19), beating the next fastest girl in her group by 20 minutes, finished second in the 29 and under group for women, and the sixth women overall for the day. Shelby qualified for the National Triathlon Championships in September with her finish. Even more impressive was her time for the 10K portion of the race. She ran the hilly course in a time of 38:37 - 6:09 per mile. That’s just slightly slower than her pace at the California State Cross Country Championships last November. Shelby will be attending Williams College in Massachusetts in the Fall and competing in Cross Country and the Triathlon. |

Update to SFHS Crystal Springs Al Time List Coach Benham pointed out to me that there was an error in the SFHS All-Time Crystal Springs Marks list. The 1992 team time (#3 on the list) was reported as 96:43. Adding up the times, the team time should be 97:43 (#6). This moves this year’s team up to the #3 spot all time for St. Francis. Nice job girls (and Coach Benham). The team is also the #49 team on the All-Time Crystal Springs List of all team ever to run the course. |

WCAL All-League Team Announced: St. Francis Gets 3 The West Catholic Athletic League announced today the 2008 Cross Country All-League teams. The First Team includes senior Shelby Golan of St. Francis. Shelby ran extremely well in all three WCAL Meets and CCS (taking second in Division II with an outstanding time of 17:55) this year, and was the sole member of the St. Francis team to make it to the State Meet (#18 in a time of 18:38). Senior Ashmi Pathela and sophomore new-comer Annelise Brochier also made the WCAL Second Team selection. |

California State XC Championships: Shelby Finishes in 18:38! Senior Shelby Golan finished eighteenth overall in the Division 2 race at the California State Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno. Shelby ran the sixth fastest time of the day for any girl in CCS with a time of 18:38. Her time is also the second fastest time ever run by a St. Francis girl on the Woodward Park course. Her time was also the #58 time, out of 951 girls who ran in all 5 divisions on the day. Nice way to end the season Shelby. |

Los Gatos All-Comers Meet In an All-Comers pre-season, pre-season meet at Los Gatos on Thursday Ashmi Pathela ran a 5:17 in the 1500-meter race. That translates to around 5:35 in the 1600 – nice time for this time of year. Nice job Ashmi. |

CCS Championships: Girls Finish Fourth On Saturday at the Central Coast Section Championships at Crystal Springs in Belmont the Varsity Girls finished in fourth place in Division 2. While a very good finish for the team, unfortunately only the top 3 finishers in the Division 2 race qualify for the State Meet. The team time of 97:05 is 2 minutes and 23 seconds faster than they ran at the WCAL Championships, and moves them into the #4 spot on the SFHS All-Time Crystal Springs Marks list. It was just a very strong year in Division 2. Senior Shelby Golan finished second in the D2 race (and with the sixth fastest time of the day) in a very impressive time of 17:55 – only the second St. Francis girl ever under 18 minutes. She qualified for the State Meet on November 24 as an individual. Second for the Lancers was sophomore Annelise Brochier in a time of 19:08 – a 15 second improvement over her WCAL time of this course. Senior Ashmi Pathela was third in 19:36, and freshmen Taylor Groseclose finished in 19:43 – an impressive 42 second improvement for WCAL III. Juniors Courtney Albini was fifth for the team with a time of 20:44, Rachel Gunsaluz was sixth in 21:01 and Dakota Taylor was seventh for the team in 21:09. Shelby’s time of 17:55 is the second-fastest time ever run by a St. Francis girl at Crystal Springs – just behind Domatilla Torrens 1992 time of 17:49. Her time also places her on the prestigious All-Time Crystal Springs List. Annelise moves up 1 spot to #4 on the Sophomore lis and Taylor Groseclose moves way up from #19 to #9 on the Freshmen list. |

|
|

WCAL II: A 2-2-3 Repeat of WCAL I Wednesday at the Shoreline Amphitheatre Course in Mountain View, St. Francis hosted the WCAL II meet. The weather and course conditions were outstanding for racing, and the Shoreline Course All-Time List was almost completely rewritten. And there were significant changes to the SFHS All –Time Shoreline Marks as well. The Varsity team finished in second place to SI and just 3 points ahead of Presentation. The team was lead this week by senior Shelby Golan (4 in 18:24). She was followed by senior Ashmi Pathela (11 in 19:31), sophomore Annelise Brochier (14 in 19:34), junior Courtney Albini (17 in 20:07) and Taylor Grosclose (18 in 20:08) .The Junior Varsity team of Stephanie Kaufmann (5 in 20:28), Alexis Perez (8 in 21:03), Dakota Taylor (12 in 21:37), Aylssa Arvin (13 in 21:41) and Edie Richards (16 in 21:57) also finished in second place for the second time. And, you guessed it, the Frosh/Soph team finish was identical to WCAL I. This time around the team was lead by sophomore Carlie Mack (5 in 20:59). She was followed by Ashley Diamond (20 in 22:36), Erin Brown (22 in 22:48), Rosario Puga-Dempsey (23 in 22:51) and Juliet Rubio (36 in 23:41). |

Crystal Springs Invitational This part weekend the Girls traveled to Belmont for the Crystal Springs Invitational. The team went to the meet for a workout (they held at the line for 5 seconds then started to run), but the Junior Varsity and Frosh/Soph teams managed to win their races anyway. The Varsity team finished third (without Shelby Golan). They were lead by Ashmi Pathela (20:01), Courtney Albini (20:08), Annelise Brochier (20:30), Adriana Romero (20:40) and Taylor Groseclose (20:42). Even with the hold-back on the starting line the team managed to finish with the #17 SFHS fastest team time on the course, and Ashmi (18 for seniors), Courtney (20 for juniors) and Taylor (22 for freshmen) made the individual lists. Check out the updated list here. The Girls team time of 102:03 easy beat the CCS At-Large time of 105:58. The Junior Varsity team took first place (the results indicate Gilroy won the race, but they were eliminated for running their Varsity team in the race). The JV Girls were lead this week by Alexis Perez (5 in 21:02) and Stephanie Kaufmann (6 in 21:12). They were helped out by Edie Richardson (18 in 22:36), Andi Bo (19 in 22:36) and Monica Harnoto (22 in 23:09). The Frosh/Soph team tied with Hollister with a total of 78 points each. Our sixth runner (Amy Saxton) was the deciding factor for the win. The team was lead by Carlie Mack (4 in 21:20). She was followed by Ashley Diamond (8 in 21:50), Erin Brown (22 in 22:34), Rosaio Puga-Dempsey (24 in 22:45) and Juliet Rubio (41 in 23:45). |

Girls Take 2, 2, 3 At WCAL I On Wednesday the Lady Lancers traveled to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco for the first of three league meets. The teams finished with 2 second-place finishes (Varsity and Junior Varsity) and 1 third place (Freshmen). The Varsity team was without senior Shelby Golan but still turned in a very fine team performance. They were lead by sophomore Annelise Bronchier (10 in 20:23) and senior Ashmi Pathela (11 in 20:24). The remainder of the top 5 was junior Courtney Albini (16 in 20:45), freshmen Taylor Groseclose (18 in 21:09) and junior Rachel Gunsalus (24 in 21:22). Despite a very good 4-5-6-14-15 finish, the Junior Varsity team of Carlie Mack (4 in 22:07), Alexis Perez (5 in 22:17), Monica Harnoto (6 in 21:21), Chelsea Norbriga (14 in 22:52) and Alyssa Arvin (15 in 22:56) also finished in second place.
