WCAL Championships: Lancers Take 2 of 3!

It was a very good day for the Lady Lancers at the WCAL Championships this past Wednesday at Crystal Springs.  For the first time since joining the WCAL five years ago, the Varsity team won the League title.  St. Francis scored 59 points to Sacred Heart Cathedral’s 74.  The team was lead by 3 sub-20:00 performances from freshman Adriana Romero (19:14) and sophomores Courtney Albini (19:44) and Stephanie Kaufmann (19:56) and a strong group under 21:00..  The team’s time of 99:24 moves them onto the #9 spot on the SFHS All-Time Crystal Springs Teams list.

The Junior Varsity team continued to dominate the league with a powerful 1-3-4-5-11 finish to also win the team title.  Leading the way again was sophomore Dakota Taylor in 20:07.  The team scored 24 points to SI’s 36.

The Freshmen team finished in second place.  Caroline Mack (4 in 21:36) and Catherine Ro-Smith (5 in 21:51) lead the way.

In all seven athletes made it onto the SFHS All-Time Crystal Springs Individual Marks.

Training Run at Crystal?
The girls that did not compete in the Crystal Springs Invitational went up to the Crystal Springs Center Meet #3 on Thursday for a training run.  Even with Coach Chisam having them come off the line late, the team ran well – especially for a training run.  Courtney Albini’s time of 20:05 (sixth place in the race and #15 on the SFHS All-Time Crystal Springs Individual Marks list) lead the Varsity team to a second-place finish.  All of the other girls ran in the Junior Varsity race and they too finished second.  Next week on Wednesday is the WCAL Championships at Crystal Springs.  Good luck ladies.

CCS At-Large Standards

There are two methods for qualifying from the WCAL Meet to the CCS Meet in Cross Country in 2006.  The first, and preferable, is to qualify by finishing in the top half of the league.  The second is for the team to run a time at Crystal Springs or Toro Park to automatically qualify for CCS.

Division 2 - Girls At-Large Standards For The CCS Meet
105:58 at Crystal   We are at 104:00
105:57 at Toro      We are at 102:58

We currently qualify at both Toro and Crystal Springs.

JV Girls Dominate at Westmoor Invitational
The Junior Varsity Girls team finished an astounding 1-2-3-4-7 to capture the team title at the Westmoor High School Ram Invitational on Saturday.  Patience was the theme of the day as the lead group of SFHS girls was back in eight place approaching the first hill, but by the mile mark had taken control of the race.  The team was lead by Dakota Taylor (1 in 16:45), Monika Harnato (2 in 16:50), Chelsea Norbriga (3 in 16:50), Alyssa Arvin (4 in 17:05) and Eddie Richards (7 in 17:17).
