California State Meet
After a 3-year hiatus from the California State Cross Country Meet, the Lady Lancers returned to Woodward Park in Fresno on Saturday with a team of 1 junior, 5 sophomores and 1 freshmen. Despite injuries and other problems, the team managed the fifth fastest time for a St. Francis Girls Team on the course, and all of the finishers managed to gain spots on the Individual Performers List for Woodward. Pictured at left is the finish of Alyssa Arvin and Ashmi Pathela. I’m sure this group will be back for years to come…

Mixed Results at California State Meet
This past Saturday the Lancer Girls competed at the California State Cross Country Championships in Fresno. While the team finished a very disappointing 21, the place does not tell the whole story. Freshmen Courtney Albini went down shortly after the 2-mile mark and did not finish despite running well for the first mile (5:40). Earlier in the year Courtney had run a very fast (#2 SF Freshmen and #4 all time Lancer) 19:50 on this course. The number two runner – Shelby Golan – was fighting a hamstring problem but still managed to finish #5 for the team with a time of 21:14 – good for #6 on the SFHS Sophomore List. The rest of the team really stepped up and ran big PRs. The team was lead by sophomores Alyssa Arvin (20:30) and Ashmi Pathela (20:31) – now #2 and #3 on the SFHS Sophomore List – with PRs of over 1 minute each. Junior Michelle Roemer improved her previous time on the course to 20:47 – good for #4 on the SFHS Junior List. Freshmen Dakota Taylor returned to running after her CCS illness and ran an impressive 20:56 – #5 on the SFHS Freshmen List. Sophomore Alexis Perez finished #6 for the team with a time of 21:27 -- #10 on the Sophomore List.

The overall team time of 1:43:58 moves them to #5 on the SFHS team list at Woodward.

Finally…A Race!
The Lancers have been training since August first, and the returning runners have been looking forward for a race to see how their summer training would pay off for them. Looking at the team times, it is evident that we are starting the season well ahead of last year on both the Varsity and JV levels. The Lancers were led by some new faces on both teams. In the Varsity race Freshman Courtney Albini led the race out the gate, only to be passed by Paly’s Renata Cummins, who led the rest of the way. Courtney did not give up and finished in a strong time for the rookie. Sophomore Shelby Golan ran a strong third from start to finish to help lead the team to our best time in 3 years and a strong 2-3-6-8-11 finish.
In the Junior Varsity race Seniors Sam Williams and Courtney Bibb led the Lancers pack in a strong 3-4 finish, with newcomer Sam just edging Courtney in the last 300 meters of the race. We had a great 3-4-5-6-8 finish.
