A Disappointing CCS

On Saturday at the Crystal Springs Cross Country Course in Belmont the Lancer Boys Cross Country season came to an end with a disappointing 8th-place (out of 15 teams) finish in Division II of the Central Coast Section Championships.  Despite some big individual efforts, the team was not strong enough to overcome a very competitive field and the loss of Chris Ries (who was out sick for the race).   However, senior Kyle Anderberg finally shook off the injury that had kept him out of most of the season since August to come roaring back in a fine time of 15:51 for the 2.95 course.  That was not only good enough for 14th place in the race (just 1 spot shy of the open spot for the State Meet), but also moves him onto the SFHS All-Time Crystal Springs List for seniors.  He was followed by senior Colton Wright (35th in 16:38), senior Ian Midiere (47th in 16:56), sophomore  Colin Mack (52nd in 17:01), and junior Matthew Prout (53rd also in 17:01). Seniors Andres Schrier (82nd in 17:47) and Michael Condon (88th in 17:54) rounded out the team.

In the combined results (all teams from all 5 divisions), Saint Francis finished 22nd out of 61 teams.  Kyle finished 28th out of 474 runners.

WCAL III: Varsity Takes 4th - Heading to CCS

On Wednesday the Lancers completed their regular season at the WCAL Championships at Crystal Springs in Belmont.  The Varsity Boys team was lead by Kyle Anderberg (8 in 16:26) who finally appears to be getting over his injury that has plagued him since August.  He was followed by, Colin Mack (17 in 16:55), Colton Wright (26 in 17:27), Mathew Prout (30 in 17:36) and Ian Midiere (31 in 17:38).  The team finished in fourth place with a team time of 86:02.  Both the fourth place finish and the team time (the CCS D2 standard is 87:05) were good enough to get the Varsity Boys team to the CCS Championships on the 14th of this month back at Crustal Springs.  This they accomplished without the help of Chris Ries (sick) and Andres Schrier (injured).  Both Chris and Andres are expected back for CCS.

The Junior Varsity Boys also finished in 5th place.  The team was compsed of scorers Zachary Comstock (18:22), Erik Munoz (19:31), Arun Durvasula (19:58), Jake Silvas (20:52) and Eric Devlin (21:56).

The Sophomore team finished in 3r place (they actually tied SHC for third but won the tie-breaker based upon the 6th runner).  The team was made up of Benjamin D''Costa (18:20), Justin Lazaruk (18:37), Keenan Donath (19:06), Brandon Duenas (19:31) and Jason Melo (19:32).

The Freshmen team was lead by a great effort from Antonio Flamenco (9th in 18:05).  He was followed by Cameron Fast (19:05), Omeed Ansari (20:04), Colin Glenday (20:11) and Roshn Marwah (20:39).  The team finished in 4th place.

Varsity Finishes 4th at Crystal Springs Invitational

On Saturday the Lancers headed up to the Crystal Springs Cross Country Course in Belmont for the Crystal Springs Invitational.  The Varsity Boys ran in the Championship Varsity race (as opposed to the normal Varsity race) with some of the best teams in the area.  The team finished 4th in the race (5th out of 34 Varsity teams overall) behind a great team effort.  Junior Chris Ries lead the way this week (12th in 16:14) followed by senior Colton Wright (15 in 16:22), sophomore Colin Mack (19 in 16:27), senior Kyle Anderberg (32 in 16:58) and junior Mathew Prout (49 in 17:58).  Junior Zac Comstock (51 in 18:05) and sophomore Ben D’Costa (53 in 18:22) rounded out the team.  The Lancer’s team time of 84:01 easily eclipsed the at-large mark of 87:05 for automatic CCS qualification.  Also, Colin Mack moved onto the SFHS All-Time Crystal Springs List for sophomores.
