Athletics It has been the long-standing tradition and philosophy of the Saint Francis High School Athletic Department that participation in athletics is an integral part of the educational process. The many lessons that athletics can teach: sportsmanship, self-discipline, teamwork, commitment, and developing self confidence, as well as dealing with success and overcoming adversity, are lessons that will last a lifetime. The true value of high school athletics rests in the learning of these lessons. Our coaches believe in this philosophy and see themselves as instrumental in its implementation. The fields and courts are used as classrooms where these "lessons for life" can be taught in an environment where student motivation is great. Over the years, Saint Francis High School has developed a reputation throughout Northern California for fielding competitive, well-coached teams in all sports. Our teams have attained success at all levels, yet have never lost sight of the values of sportsmanship and fair play. Saint Francis is dedicated to giving as many student-athletes as possible the opportunity to participate in a well-equipped, well-staffed athletic program. We are extremely pleased that approximately two-thirds of our student body take part in our athletic program and we strive to maintain or improve upon this participation and the quality of our programs. As in every other aspect of the Saint Francis community, the success of the Lancer athletic program has always been a product of the dedicated students, teachers, administrators and staff of Saint Francis High School. The overwhelming interest and participation by the student body, in addition to the direct involvement of the faculty as coaches and support staff have built a program of unparalleled pride and commitment to excellence. As an incoming freshman at Saint Francis, we hope that you will take advantage of every opportunity in athletics. Doing so will enable you to make new friends, learn valuable lessons and provide a lifetime of memories. Michael Pilawski, Athletic Director
